Well folks, things really ended with a bang. The Monitor, gone. The YBRBJ, defeated, and their source of power gone. The Manhunter robots, fled. Brainiac, dormant. Oblivion, dead. Hundreds of millions dead, and the world ravaged. And, things really aren't done. The Manhunter robots are still out there, and they took some of the heroes hostage. We'll find them. Brainiac is just sleeping, planning his next move, no doubt. We'll be ready. The world has faced its fears, literally, and come through it, hopefully stronger for the experience. Superman is back. And, apparently, I'm half Kryptonian. I was the sun over Australia. I don't get my powers from my Kryptonian genes, and I don't suffer from Kryptonite exposure, but my body can still store solar energy, with the use of an energy harness, but it doesn't seem to do anything with it.
Its been a rough couple of years. Oblivion seemed to kick off this bad period, and things just seemed to get worse from there. We've come through a lot, the last couple of years, all of us. And, I'm tired. I'm tired because I've just gone through the most intense and prolonged series of combats I've ever been in before. I don't need to sleep much, but I'm tired. I'm tired because... You know what, fuck that. I'm not ending this entry on a downer. WE WERE VICTORIOUS!!! The Birds of Prey, personally, have pissed off Sinestro, and I, personally, can't think of a better person to piss off. Our foes have been vanquished from the field, one by one, and if they are not all gone, it is only because this latest foe has taken up so much of our damned time. Cyborg, Robot Man, Red Tornado, and Skeet were all saved from Oblivion. Superman is back! Now is not the time to mourn our dead, or look to our troubles in the future. Now is the time to celebrate our victory! To celebrate LIFE! Whatever the future brings, we will face, as we faced these events. The light of humanity still burns bright (and yes, I still count myself as human). I'm still tired, but I live yet. I go to celebrate that fact. Join me!
Day off
So, after fighting for about a week straight, only taking breaks to sleep and eat, I was given a day off. All us "younger" heroes were, though not at the same time. I insisted I didn't need one, that I was fine, but I was told mental health is as important as physical help, and that the older heroes are more used to "crisis mode" as he put it, so we get a day off. A lot of people slept. I don't need that much sleep, so I did some other things. My friend and teammate Gekko had a lovely statue destroyed in a super battle, and I've been trying to replace it with something I made. Came out horrible. I gave it to her anyway, more as a gag then anything else, and I'll try again. My sculpture usually involves metal, iron, and beaten metal, and and trying to make something very delicate, and I'm just not getting the hang of it. I hung out with Superboy for a bit, and I did some work at the Embassy that I've been putting off. Turns out I will get to meet the President, at some point in the future. Diana is going for a private meeting with the man, and I've been asked to be there to help her, to "staff" her, I think is the term. Oh, and I get a staffer too! It seems the Under the Cape has taken in interest in this blog, and is publishing paraphrases of it, designed to make the information seem more salacious than it really is. So, I'm getting a staffer to help me deal with the pr, and the day to day stuff that I haven't been able to deal with myself while I've been dealing with the current crisis. So, hello to all you new people reading, thanks to the Under the Cape. Sorry it isn't exactly what you were expecting. I had a great half a day off. I'm only taking half a day. I'm putting myself back in. I can't stop everything from happening, but I can do my part.
Later all!
Later all!
Sleepy
I feel like I should've done more. Logically, I don't think there was more I could do, and I'm a warrior, so I really shouldn't feel this way, but I do. I feel like I've let you all down. They are estimating 100 million dead so far. And who knows if the people that were being turned into drones can be saved. The thing on the moon is called Brainiac, folks, and its old Kryptonian technology. I'd like to point out that Oblivion, Brainiac, and the YPRBJ are all external threats. Things that are not of this Earth, that came here to screw with us. So, if people like, say Lex Luthor, or Amanda Waller had their way, and there were no heroes in the world, that everyone would now be screwed, cause the superheroes are trying to hold all these things off. Brainiac probably isn't as bad as Oblivion or the YPRBJ's, but we aren't sure what his ultimate goals are. And, of course, he is enslaving/transforming people, which I suppose is better than killing them, but only if the process can be reversed.
I'm tired. I'm in day 3 of no sleep, and I'm getting punchy. I've been ordered to go and rest, so, on the way, I'm typing this out.
Remind me to talk about my mother next time. She..... uggh!

Not much time....
Doomsday is plummeting to the ice below. Yes, THAT Doomsday. He's been a guest of the US government for some time, and they wanted to transfer him away from his present holding facility as they are having "issues" there. And, who do they hire to "protect" this prisoner transport, my mother, the psycho supervillain. What could possibly go wrong? We board the plane to stop the transfer, and we are attacked by my mother's minions, while she walks calmly out of the pilots compartment. Long story very short, we beat her team, then I took her down. But not before she let Doomsday out. Said it was some kind of plan. I think somehow she is having Circe control it. We have to contain it, here, in the Antarctic, so it can't do too much damage. I type really fast, so he is still falling, but I have to go. Wouldn't do to be late. To battle!
Secret Base Tips
Tip number 1 - If you are going to have a secret base in the Antarctic, make sure its really secret
Tip number 2 - Make sure its well defended enough to, at the very least, say, TELL SOMEONE ITS BEING TAKEN OVER BY OBLIVION.
Yeah, so, the Birds of Prey met Oblivion, and it was kinda chatty. It welcomed us in, told us it was too late to do anything, that is was going to "rebirth" itself, basic Borg stuff. Resistance is futile, your distinctiveness will be added to our own, that kinda thing (what!?, I saw First Contact :-). Oh, and it didn't want us calling in anyone to let them know we had found it. Which was really kinda telling that, yeah, it could be stopped, and all that. So, in we went. We did get a message off first, but with the whole YPRBJ thing going on, we were kinda on our own. And, Oblivion has a new playmate. Cyborg Supes. That evil guy that showed up during that very confusing "Is Superman dead?" time 20 years back. So, it was Cyborg Supes, Red Tornado, Cyborg, the bouncy robot head guy, and Robot Man, versus little old us. So, ouch! Yeah, not much fun. We took out Cyborg Supes, cause we had just gotten back from New Krypton, and had all these neat Kryptonite toys with us. And that is when things started to go bad. There was something happening where we took CS out, and the rest of them got stronger. No fun. I was fighting a very defensive battle, trying not to get hit, and making the times I could get a good hit off count, but, we very nearly lost. We lasted just long enough to take away the power source from the SECRET ANTARCTIC BASE that we were making sure was "secure". Yeah, not so much. Taking the power source, and escaping forced Obi to rebirth itself without the 30 people and the power source it was planning on taking along. So, it left the people there to die, took the Borged heroes, and merged and became something, different. It just looks like a humanoid shaped, 8ft tall puddle of nanites. I have no idea what happened to the Borged heroes. Hopefully, they are still in there somewhere, and can be saved. Pray for them. We went back and rescued the folks left behind, but who knows what Obi did to them before leaving. I hope they are ok.
Not much else to report. Either I'm really stressed, or my body is changing, or both. I've been wanting to do more and more during the crisis, and I haven't been sleeping much. Or eating much. In fact, the down time I'm being told I have to take, I usually can't sleep. So, I sculpt, or read, or just meditate. I'm down to about an hour of sleep a night, if that, and I'm just eating maybe a meal a day. Sometimes not even that, just a power bar, or official Justice League food supplements (basically a better tasting power bar :-). Haven't seen Superboy much, with the whole New Krypton thing, and the YPRBJ's. Maybe he's one of "those" guys. :-)
Cya!
PS - OMFG! This is getting silly. Some morons decided to nuke the "secret" base. Literally. So we have minutes to get the people out of here. AND, the prison transfer they were hoping to do is still happening. I'm going to have to speak to Oracle about this, cause if this is the organization she is working for, I may be in the wrong place. I gotta go. We gotta go stop the plane with, well, hopefully you never have to find out who was on the plane....

New Gypton
With the ongoing damage to Earth's infrastructure during the attack by the Yellow Power Ring wielders, I know many of you can't read this at all, and most of the rest of you are too busy to read this. I find that writing this blog helps me focus my thoughts, and let me look over what has happened, and what needs to be done, so, even if most of you can't read this, I'm still going to write it, for my own sake. I was kinda hinting with my last entry that we were going to go off on a mission that I couldn't tell you guys about. Well, that has happened now, so I can talk about it. We went to New Krypton to try and rescue Superman and to try and find something to help us against the YPRBJ (thats Yellow Power Ring Battery Jerks, for those of you who can't read my mind) and maybe against the continuing threat of Oblivion. And while I can't tell you exactly what it is, we got something. Its a weapon of incredible power, that will simply blow Sinestro and the other YPRBJ away, should they come here in force. That is really all I can say about that. Our other goal, to rescue Superman, didn't go so hot. See, he really doesn't need physical rescuing. He's been brainwashed into believing that sitting on that planet and rotting while the rest of the universe goes up in flames is the right thing. They've given him a family to take care of, and twisted every he's ever believed to make sure he stays were he is. I don't know if we helped him or not. Being the snot nosed rug rats we are, we tried some rather crude methods at first. But then, I think we struck on a plan that, while it didn't work outright, did, I hope, plant a seed in his mind that will start to make him doubt everything he's been brainwashed into believing is the truth. I think that is the best we could do. Lastly, while we were there, we met Lobo. Now, I'm a college girl, and I'm hot, and I like to dress, sometimes, in very little clothing. I don't generally care if people look. I can hold my own and then some. I've never been freaked out by people just looking, and if I think they are getting creepy, I can usually stare them down. Lobo is the first guy to make me feel creepy about being in very little clothes. So, thanks Lobo, I'm going to kick your ass for that another time. Hang in there, people. Keep the fight going. No fear!
I am frustration
I told a nearly omnipotent being this today, and he smiled at me, and agreed. That's right, folks, the Birds of Prey took a trip to Oa to see the Monitor. Most of you probably aren't familiar with the Monitor, but he's kinda like a god, I guess.
I don't know how many of you are reading this. I writing this in the aftermath of the Sinestro Corps attacks on our planet. Many of you don't have access to the internet, or even power. Those murders killed many, and did massive damage with their attacks. All the worlds heroes responded, as did the armed forces of the world, to do battle with the invaders. The Birds were at Star Labs, doing battle with the force sent there, and we were doing ok, until they gated in reinforcements. Luckily, Wondergirl and Supergirl showed up as reinforcements on our side, and were were able to take down the bastards with not much damage to the lab. Octave was knocked unconscious during the battle, and Gecko and I were shaken up, but we took our licks, cleaned up, and went out and found more of the bastards. I'm resting now, and I'm lucky enough to live in the embassy, so we have our own power source. If you need food, water, or just to charge your phone, come on over. The grounds are already flooded with tents, I don't know if there is room, but if you can find a spot, you'll be welcome, too. Many of Luthorcorps buildings are still intact, so you could also find food and shelter there. Lex loves a photo op, and charity is usually a great one. To those of you whose homes are intact, think about helping someone else out. We will be rebuilding from this for a while, and its not over. They'll be back. We'll fight them off again. All of us will, together.
The portion of the Monitors intelligence that conversed with us was a little piece of his curiosity. He said he was Curiosity, and so I took that as its name. Curiosity appeared as a beautiful child, perfect in every way, except for maybe his lack of hair, but it looked as if that was the way he was supposed to look. He was so beautiful I had to pick him up. Its been a while since I've held a child like that. I know it wasn't really a child, but sue me. We went to the Monitor because of this invasion we saw coming. We asked him what we needed to do, and he said we are doing it. We are walking the path. He said we can beat this thing. I believe him. We will beat this thing. Let that be what you take away from this, hope, and the image of a woman holding a beautiful child on her hip. Life goes on.

Baggage
We all have some, and we all bring our baggage to our new relationships. We got to deal with some of mine a few days ago, when my mother, the supervillain, introduced herself to my team. Today, we got to deal with some of Octave's baggage. And her baggage is sizable. Like, starship sizable. Octave's sister showed up, and tried to forcibly recruit her into her perverted pirate crew. And, I gotta say, they were pretty good. They trapped us in a big force wall, and then tried to take us out, one at a time. They took out Gecko, and almost got me, too. I had to grab Gecko and run. When they saw they weren't going to get us, they ran away to their friggin space ship, and launched missiles at Metropolis, to punish us for fighting back, I guess. Ellegy, if you are reading this, know that you are the worst kind of coward, and I'm going to someday enjoyed tearing your spaceship apart around you, someday. Also know this, if you kill an innocent in your quest to kidnap Octave, I will avenge those lost. You have been warned.
On a completely different note, Superboy and I, what, got together? There is a lot of stuff brewing, a lot of stuff going on, and another team of newish heroes were mentioned, the Outsiders. They were a bunch of young and upcoming heroes, and they got recruited by the Justice League to do something really dangerous. Long story short, they never came back. Nobody knows what happened. They just disappeared. More heroes, gone. I took it as a reminder. I'm trained to be a warrior, and sometimes, warriors die. So, I guess I'll gather my rosebuds. God, Superboy, it really does sound kinda dumb, doesn't it. Can't believe they stuck him with that one. And, it makes me sound like a total perv... :-)
Laterz.

Serious Shit
First, its come to my attention that I have some readers in the superhero community. I suppose if you are going to put it out there, you should expect it to be read. So, welcome all! I hope you enjoy my random thoughts.
So, do I tell you, dear reader about what is going on? Do you want to know? I imagine most of my readers don't know about most of the serious crap going in the world. In fact, I'm sure I don't know half the stuff that is going on in the world, but the stuff I do know about is serious. Which kinda has me concerned about the the other stuff. Is telling you going to lead to hysteria, or is not telling you going to lead to fear? Or, does this not matter at all? Maybe not enough people read this to really matter, or people just consider it a prank of some kind? Screw it. I shouldn't lie, or not tell you the truth, not if it concerns you. And this seems to concern everyone. Remember my Fear entry, below? There are several different color rings, and each ring is powered by a different trait. The green ones are powered by will, the orange by greed, the red by rage, and the yellow by fear. There are purple ones and blue ones, too, but I'm not sure of their traits. Anyway, the yellow ring wielders come from another dimension, apparently, and they want to come here to fight the green lanterns. Now, there are a few yellow wielders around, but they want to come here en mass. And, they are planning on using this planet as their base of operations. There is a lot of fear out there, and its making them stronger. In fact, we seem to be very susceptible to fear. We panic, and do stupid things. People use fear to prey on us. People use fear to try and manipulate us, to control us. Maybe that is why they are trying to come her. Maybe every time some government tool use fear to manipulate the people, he is giving them a little more power. Am I getting morbid? Anyway, fear make them more powerful, and they are going to try and come here with their big Anti-Monitor boss, and try to take over. So, try to think happy thoughts, and don't let fear affect your life so much.
Also, some rogue Kryptonians have found themselves a planet, and are trying to breed themselves a new civilization. Of course, they are lead by a criminal Kryptonian general, and have captured Superman. In addition, said general, Zod, is hostile to Earth, and he'll want to conquer us.
So, do you feel better or worse? Big mystery, where is Superman, solved, but not in a good way. I'll probably take some heat from my fellow heroes for this. I understand why they tried to hide his absence at first, but its time you knew.

My Mother, the Supervillain
Well, its official. My mother is the supervillain, Dark Angel. She has her own villain group and everything.
And last night, she set a trap for me. Now that I have superpowers, and, maybe even more importantly, now that I have a connection to Wonder Woman, mommy dearest has decided its time for me to come home. So, she lured us out by threatening to release a homicidal Kryptonian in custody, and then struck. She didn't appear herself until we had taken out most of her lackeys. She brought along her witch, Circe. Yes, THAT Circe. We fought Roulette, who was still, at the time, collecting a government paycheck (not much longer, I'm thinking), Silver Swan, Darkfire (Starfire's sister), Penny Dreadful, and some gadgeteer whose name I've already forgotten. His performance at the event really wasn't impressive enough for me to remember his name. If Circe hadn't fetched him back from where I left him, he probably still wouldn't be back at my mother's lair. I fly REALLY fast. And gadgeteer boy thought it would be a great idea to grab onto me. So, I flew him about 40 kilometers away from the battle site, broke his grip on me, and got back to the fight. Circe had to fetch him back. Its too bad. He really didn't have a chance to fall very far. After we had taken out Roulette, Darkfire, ditched the guy, and mostly taken out Silver Swan, my mother showed up to salvage the fight. Now, she brought Circe with her. I'm sure Circe could've taken us all out by herself. She's been a witch for several thousand years, and is rumored to be the lover of one of the Greek gods (Its best not to gossip about gods, they can get persnickety), but, apparently she's on some kind of leash. She's made some kind of agreement about something, cause a few seconds after she showed up, Doctor Fate showed up! The sinister helmet himself! Anyway, he showed up, they talked, and she scooted. I will admit to getting really mad when I saw my mother take the field. I tried to truck her, but she's very good. I ended up trucking Penny Dreadful, instead. My mother probably has the people to get this done, eventually. And she has Circe to really mind fuck me if she gets her hands on me. So, if I disappear for a while, then show up acting all evil, well, you know why.

What a day!
Its been a hell of a day. First, Diana was having a big political to-do. A political event on women's issues, with diplomats from all over the world attending. It started at the embassy, and moved to an amphitheater a little ways away for Diana's key note address. All of the sudden, there is a big Justice League crisis, and Wonder Woman has to fly off to save the world. Do we postpone the speech? No, of course not. The last thing Diana says before she flies off is, "Mar'i will do the speech". Wow. This is how she does things. This is a both a test, and a message. The test, can she do it. The message, I expect more out of you being a hero than punching bad guys. I got through it, and I think I did pretty well, for being tossed into the deep end. I had my a few bad moments, but thank gods I've been working at the embassy this long, and I've picked up some of what I've seen. I need to be better, though, for next time. I also heard someone refer to me as "Wonder Woman's protege". Isn't that Wonder Girl? Isn't that why she's called Wonder Girl. I know the strict definition of protege, but doesn't that word imply more? I don't like the direction that goes. Is Wonder Woman preparing for when she is gone? I guess, with all that is happened with Oblivion, she has to. But, no one can replace her. The best we can do is carry on without her.
Then, the Birds of Prey got called away and I had to get Wonder Girl to finish up the event for me. (If you haven't seen the results of that, check THIS link. :-) An all eviled out Mary Marvel was on a rampage in downtown Metropolis, and with the Justice League gone, the BoP took the field. Superguy and a set of Lexcorp power armor were fighting her. We spent a minute clearing out the civilians, then got into the action. It was a tough fight, but it was 5 on 1, and she eventually fled. Not before getting off some kind of spell off on Superguy and the Lex Suit. This spell took control of them for a while, and we had to subdue them. Apparently, the Lex Suit shut itself down when the pilot got bespelled. So, we subdued Superguy.
In the aftermath, Superguy was having some trouble remembering things, so we took him to the Hall of Justice and waited for the JL'ers to get back, as they have some people that might be able to help Superguy better. We learned a lot about him, but I won't share his secrets with you. That is up to him. Bottom line, I like him. He is giving up called himself Superman, and the silly red costume he was given. He's going to call himself Superboy, and we are going to be spending some time together. No, not like that. A least, not right away. :-) More later, friends.
Update: We spent most of two days together at the Hall. We have some things in common, he and I, and if we don't end up lovers, we will at least be good friends, I think. We were both hurt after our battle with Mary Marvel, and my favorite method of convalescence is to find a beach somewhere, and sit in the sun. I didn't take much convincing to take him to the beach to see my bathing suit...

Fear
There is too much fear in the world today. Honestly, I think things like the internet, and instant communication have a lot to do with that. Relax, I'm not suggesting that we do away with these things. I'm just saying that with instant communication, news of things gets out there quickly, and then, people's first reactions are put on the internet as well. Panic can spread so quickly, and that ability that humanity seems to have to just stop and think about things gets put on hold. After all, first the event happens, and then peoples reactions start to happen, and so often, that reaction is fear, violence, or hysteria. You never have a chance to catch your breath and THINK until much later. Consider your peasant farmer from the 1800's, how they probably didn't get news of events happening for months after it happened sometimes, if ever. Ignorance really was bliss, in some cases. Now, panic can spread across the world in seconds. And, that isn't the worst of it. Everyone has an agenda, and they use fear to spread their agenda. Fear of homosexuals, fear of metahumans, fear of drugs, fear of not having money, fear of not being able to take care of your children. Fear of that which is not like us. No wonder the Sinestro Corps wants to use this planet as their base of operations. We use fear against each other so much they must get a real kick out of it. Heck, even the heroes use fear! Batman is all about fear. And I don't know what we can do about it. I'm not a great thinker. I tend to charge up to things and hit them, hard. But fear is hard to get a handle on. I will admit that even I have been affected by fear recently. I think the best thing we can do, is think first, before we act. When you see that news story about something, think. When someone pushes an agenda at you, think. Don't let fear push you into acting in a way that, ultimately, won't be good for you. Think about what your response should be, then act. Decisively. Follow your beliefs and act, just try not to let fear color those beliefs.
Aftermath
So, as I'm sure you've all heard by now, Green Lantern got booted from the Justice League for his actions. I know, it was reported that he "left", but, no, he got booted. He earned it.
Green Lantern is a dick!
So, it pains me to say that my 2nd superhero fight ever is likely to be against another superhero. Green Lantern is in a pissing contest with the JLA (specifically Black Canary and Wonder Woman). They didn't consult him before releasing my teammate, Octave, who has done nothing wrong on this planet, and told him to leave her alone. He thinks Octave is a danger to everyone. He told me, point blank, that he knows better than Black Canary and Wonder Woman. Diana only has about thirty or so more years doing this than he does. He sicced his army buddy, Captain Atom, and the alien threat reaction team on Octave. She hasn't done anything! So I grabbed Octave and ran. I didn't want to fight other heroes, even jerky ones. It seems that Octave has been mind controlled in the past, and used to do some terrible things. But Green Lantern's own organization cleared her, and brought her back here. Apparently, he knows better than them, too. I'm so frustrated. I just want to start punching things. I know that is immature. I know I act immature sometimes. But this is wrong! Heroes shouldn't have to fight other superheroes because one hero is trying to make a point. But I will. If they come for her, I will fight them. At this point, I know nobody cares about my opinion, except maybe you readers, so here it is. I trust Diana and Black Canary more than I trust Green Lantern and Captain Atom. I think their actions in this speak well of my opinion. GL even stormed out of a meeting we had at the JLA headquarters, saying that he was going to get his way, or he'd come after us all. Bring it, dick! I'll find a way to send you back to Oa with a note attached saying, "This guy put his ego over his duty. Maybe try a woman next time?"
Later friends.
Later friends.
Combat
I'm wired. I just got back from my first real combat. While I'm an Amazon, and I've trained with many kinds of combat for most of my life, I've never faced the real thing until today. I've also never seen a true act of violent malice before today, either. This gang of pumped up men in Bane masks were rampaging through the college bars in downtown Metropolis today. They were being violent, and careless, but I saw one of them purposefully land of top of a young woman while bounding up the street. The woman was gravely injured. She went down without a sound, and when she did, I felt something I've never felt before. Rage. I'm no stranger to anger, but I've never felt as if I wasn't in control of myself before. I was like one of Ares berserkers. I flew at him so fast he didn't see me coming, and hit him as hard as I'm able. I knocked him several feet into the concrete wall of a parking structure, knocking him briefly unconscious. Seeing him possibly hurt and unconscious brought me out of my rage. We put the rest of the Bainites down, the leader escaped. I'm still thinking about this, trying to sort this all out in my head. I thought writing this down might help, but I think I need to talk to someone. I'm going to go and speak with Diana. More later.
Birds of Prey
I'm part of a team! This is a real step in the direction of being a superhero. A woman Diana knows, calling herself Oracle is putting together a new hero team. Apparently, she prefers all female hero teams, which does seem the most prudent way to go. She is calling her team the Birds of Prey, and she would like me to join. She does have an agenda, of course. I won't share it, but it doesn't seem objectionable. And just because she has an agenda for us doesn't mean that is all we are going to do. But, as I said, Diana trusts her, and I suppose I'll see for myself if she can be trusted. So, my teammates!
Gekko - She will be the veteran of the group. I'm told she's been active for a while, but I can't find a whole lot of information about her. She is a sneaky, martial artist type, and she's pretty good. She's a little older than I am, and she likes to go out on the town.
Haze - Honestly, I don't know if this post will take. She seems to have some kind of ability to make people forget about her. I'm sure that ability extends to cyberspace, but, hey, we'll see. Haze will be handling transportation for the group, and seems like she is new to the hero game. Her abilites, like her, are a mystery.
Octive - The last member of our group is, well, she's new to the area, let's say. Apparently, she's been off planet for a while, and in the care of the Green Lantern Corp. She isn't a lantern, and she seem's reluctant to talk about her time off planet. I think she isn't exactly proud of some of the things she's done while she was away. I was on monitor duty at the JLA headquarters the day she arrived on planet, and Black Canary asked me to look after the new arrival. So, I have been. She has some neat sonic powers.
So, as a tryout/test, we got to fight Wonder Woman! And, she kicked our asses. Diana is a great fighter, and has been doing this a long time. I was happy I got in one good lick that she wasn't expecting. She had me caught in that lasso, and was using it to whip me around like a tether ball. It was only fair to return the favor. I grabbed the rope, and raced at a high rate of speed toward the wall. I turned at the last minute, and slammed Diana at a high rate of speed into the wall. It was great. I didn't matter much, in the long term, though, as she took us all out. We've all been training together, and getting to know each other. We are making plans to go out at some point. We'll see how that goes.
More next time...
I am an Amazon
Yes, one of those Amazons. There aren't many new Amazons, though. There shouldn't be. As I'm sure you know, there are no men allowed on what has been dubbed Paradise Island. Amazons, besides being long-lived and a little tougher and stronger, have the same biology as humans. No men, no new Amazons. So, new Amazons come along rarely, and usually have a story attached. I'll keep mine short, as this isn't what I really want to write about. My mother is an outcast Amazon. A rebel, who has been banished from the island. I was rescued from her when I was 11. Paradise Island is a little lacking for children growing up. There are no other children. And, their society is very different from the rest of the world. So, by the age of 13, I was getting a bit wild. It was decided that I would be sent to Metropolis, to the Embassy, to experience the outside world. And then Princess Diana entered my life. Better known as Wonder Woman. She is another topic for another time, but she took me under her wing, gave me a place to live at the embassy. I worked on her staff for several years, and spent my time learning about both worlds. This one and the island. I realize all this makes it easy to identify me. I'm not really trying to hide. I'll casually conceal my identity for the sake of my new teammates (more later), but again, I'm an Amazon. We are fairly easy to pick out of a crowd, unless we are hanging out with a women's basketball team. My mother will recognize me, and she isn't one of the good guys. So, my secret is kinda out there already.
So, what are these powers the title of this blog implies? And, where did I get them if most Amazons are similar to humans? About a month ago, I won the lottery. Apparently, something happened on a cosmic scale a while back, and caused something called an Alpha Wave. This Alpha Wave has been going around, giving people powers. And, boom, I got some. I have grown up around people with powers, and I was always disappointed I didn't have any. I wanted (still do) to be a super hero, like Diana. I wanted to be a hero, and I was jealous of those that had powers. And, growing up around Diana, I never understood supervillians. How do these people get given this incredible gift, and use it only to benefit themselves? Well, I've grown up a little since then, thank Goddess. I put the star on my chest, as I told that when I was hit by the Alpha Wave, something very much like that manifested around my body. I'm strong, not as strong as Wonder Woman (but I'm taller! :-), and I fly at great speed. I can fly around the world in about 30 minutes. Who knows what else might manifest. I've only had these powers a month or so now. I've decided to try and do some good with these powers. Because, I really believe in the saying that provided the title of this blog. Corny, I know, but there it is. And, since so many people are doing this whole blogging thing, I thought I'd give that a try, too. I'll share with you my experiences, my thoughts, my fears, my problems, and my triumphs. I'm taking the name Peregrine. The peregrine falcon is the worlds fastest bird when it is in a hunting dive. And the name works well for my new team. More on that later.
